As we grow older and our priorities shift away from us, we have less time to work on ourselves, our goals and creating the freedom and influence we hope for. With less time, comes more prioritisation. However, it is very easy to fall into a subconscious trap where we pay too much attention and give too much energy to those things in life which pull us away from our goals.
Here are 5 things you should let go of today which you may subconsciously be doing causing you to waste time and energy:
1. Let go of your need to please people
It’s okay if not everyone around you is pleased with your choices. It doesn’t make those choices less significant and valuable to you. The appreciation others give you, should not be dependant on you breaking yourself to please them.
“Perfection is an illusion because we just end up wanted more”
2. Let go of your need to know all the answers
Sometimes, not knowing is better than knowing. We live our lives wanted to know all the answers for success, financial freedom, happiness. However, the road to get these answers can easily end up where you finding yourself in a deep hole of emptiness.
Start to take pride in not knowing all the answers.
“If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room” — Harvey Smith
3. Let go of failure
After a tough loss, it’s become instinct to drag the emotions over days, weeks and even years. If you’re unable to let go of a failure you will never be able to see the other side.
Take each failure with joy and an opportunity to learn and develop
“With every failure comes an equal and equivalent seed of success” — Napolean Hill
4. Let go of complacency
Following a routine can be great but there comes a point where you are no longer challenging yourself and you become complacent. This is so damaging to growth as you may feel like you’re living a fulfilling day but in reality, you have not tried anything new and you start to live life in circles.
Let go of being complacent and step out of your comfort zone. Failure or success, it’s a win-win in my eyes.
5. Let go of spending that extra £1.99
You may think £1.99 a day for a coffee every day is nothing in comparison to your income or doesn’t play a huge role in your finances. However, according to the compound effect that £1.99 will add up over time and bit you in the future. Assuming that’s the price of a coffee or a daily consumption, that’s £726.35 / year!
But the enjoyment of that coffee may be worth it, right? Over the next 5 years that £700 will turn into over £3,600, and that’s NOT taking into account inflation. If you used that £1.99 a day and put it into a valuable investment, you would have made a possible 5000x return on that investment.
Also, imagine the positive health benefits you would gain.
Think about some of these factors which you may not realise are subconsciously taking over your life.
Have a great week!
